bestseller - wood typeBelow are the top selling Christian books of 2010. This list was compiled by Thomas Nelson’s CEO, Michael Hyatt and includes sales through traditional bookstores (not ebooks, sales outside the U.S., and a couple of other factors).  Either way, it gives a good picture of what is popular in Christian book sales right now.  Leave your impressions at the end of the post.

So what do you think? Interesting? What books have you read on the list that you really liked or disliked? What SHOULD be on this list that isn’t? What does this say about the state of evangelicalism?

  1. Ok so is there anything Chuck Norris can’t do? I guess it would be funnier if he was number 1 but gettting in at #82 is still pretty awesome! And somehow “The Five Love Languages” is number 4 and 55? hmm…

Last thought, I am really suprised that “The Purpose Driven Life” is still in the top 20. I thought that everyone already had 2 copies of that book like 5 years ago. If I ever suggested that someone read it I wouldn’t tell them to buy it, I’d just give them one of my 5 copies. My guess: Churches giving graduation presents to high school/college students. Thats where I got 2 of my 5.

    • Chuck Norris SHOULD be number 1. He really had little to do with the “Do Hard Things” book, but it is funny he is on there. The reason “5 Love Languages” is on there twice is because of two different publishers.

The PDL will probably go down as the best-selling Christian book of all time (at least in our generation) behind only The Bible. I actually thought Joel Osteen’s books would’ve been higher. Also, when I went to the Christian book store, there were a lot more about about “Armageddon” and “Economic Devastation coming to America” than this list had. Thank goodness!

      • Yea I agree with thinking that Joel Osteen would have been higher. I also know that Beck would agree with Sara about Beth Moore’s new book.

The one I just thought about that does suprise me that isn’t on the list is Don’t Waste Your Life, or anything from John Piper. Also it suprises me that the only 2 bibles on this list are both the KJV. I would have thought that the NIV would be selling way more than KJV.

And I agree with you, Thank goodness there aren’t more doom and gloom books on that list! Its also kinda cool that the Dave Ramsey book is as high as it is. Hopefully people that are buying it are actually reading it and putting some of that stuff into practice. Me and Beck got a lot of help in setting up a budget and trying to be responsible with our finances.

  2. There were some great ones on that list like Beth Moore’s new book about Insecurity (don’t be deceived by the uninspiring title and self-helpish cover…it’s fantastic) and some classics like Redeeming Love and Oswald Chambers. I’m interested in who Sarah Young is…I’ve not really heard much about her but she’s towards the top and shows up a few times. Also I’m curious how the Bearenstain Bears made it on the list. Not smashing the book mind you, it’s great literature, just a little surprised to see it there. :o)

  3. What about John Bevere? I was ignorant if Holy Fear until I read his books.
Also what about Dr David Cho?- the pastor if the worlds largest church.
